Fugro to support sewerage infrastructure renewal in Leidschendam-Voorburg

The UPR takes an integrated approach to infrastructure renewal, combining replacement works with broader environmental and sustainability goals. To support this, Fugro is delivering a SI programme that brings together multiple disciplines, including archaeology, geotechnics, hydrology, ecology, environmental studies, and utility mapping, in collaboration with project partners EARTH Integrated Archaeology, Ploegam, Pius Floris, and Aerius Milieu.

All findings will be delivered within a digital twin environment, a virtual representation of the physical subsurface that integrates both real-time and historical data. This gives the municipality a clear view of important subsurface conditions, including drainage, soil stability, contamination, and archaeological features. By helping to identifying risks and challenges early in the planning process, the digital twin supports faster, more informed decision-making and enables timely interventions to address potential soil and groundwater issues, ultimately enabling more resilient and efficient drainage design.
