Keel Laying Hav Fles

Navigare Shipping and Royal T Shipyards Celebrate Milestone in Green Shipping Innovation

July 10 2025

Royal T Shipyards proudly marked the keel laying of Hull 379, the second vessel in the pioneering GADUS series of 5600dwt dry cargo ships, being built for Navigare Shipping of the Faroe Islands.

Following the lead vessel Hav Leiti, Hull 379 continues the roll-out of this forward-thinking, GADUS
series. Developed in close cooperation between the two family-owned companies, Navigare Shipping
and Royal T Shipyards, the series reflects a mutual commitment to sustainable, efficient, and futureready maritime solutions.

The ceremony was steeped in tradition and symbolic meaning. A specially engraved coin, presented
by the client, was welded onto the tanktop of the vessel—a maritime custom meant to bring good
fortune and safe journeys at sea. Adding a personal and heartfelt touch, a second engraved coin was
placed onto the ship’s support frame, highlighting the deep-rooted sense of family and legacy behind
the project.

“The keel laying of the second GADUS vessel marks continued momentum in our journey toward clean
and capable cargo shipping,” said Thecla Bodewes, CEO of Royal T Shipyards. “Every milestone we
reach together with Navigare strengthens our shared values and vision.”

Designed with sustainability and performance in mind, the GADUS vessels feature a diesel-electric
propulsion system powered by four generator sets, paired with a fixed-pitch propeller in a nozzle for
excellent fuel efficiency and maneuverability. The ships are built to meet IMO Tier-3 standards and
are fitted with a sewage treatment plant to ensure environmentally responsible operation, especially
in the Baltic region.

Additional innovations include a shore power transformer for emission-free discharging in ports, an
electric self-discharger on a wagon for efficient cargo handling, and a high cubic cargo hold to
accommodate a wide variety of cargo types. Engineered entirely in-house by Royal T Shipyards, the
vessels are equipped with advanced automation systems to deliver top-tier reliability and operational
control.

Álvur Højgaard, CEO of Navigare Shipping, commented: “Laying the keel of our second GADUS vessel
is a proud and exciting step. We’re building not just ships—but a legacy of smarter, greener shipping
for generations to come.”

The vessel will be delivered in 2026, with her sister ships to follow. The ceremonial event, attended
by the owners of Navigare Shipping and the management of Royal T Shipyards, emphasized not only
progress in shipbuilding—but the human connections that propel it forward.
