Nexus Energy wins Rabobank Innovation Award 2025

September 23 2025

At the leading energy transition conference Recharge Earth in Rotterdam, Nexus Energy BV has been awarded the prestigious Rabobank Innovation Award. The jury praised Nexus Energy for delivering a practical and scalable solution to one of the most pressing challenges in ports and cities: ship emissions at berth – and the urgent need for clean, reliable power independent of congested electricity grids. Nexus Energy’s hydrogen-powered mobile shore power systems provide shipowners and ports with an immediately deployable alternative to diesel generators. Unlike fixed shore power, Nexus’ containerised systems are fully grid-independent, making them uniquely suited for today’s reality, in which grid congestion delays the energy transition in ports and industrial clusters

By enabling vessels to switch off their auxiliary engines, Nexus Energy PowerPacks
deliver:

  • Financial return – reduced fuel costs, avoided penalties, and lower port fees
  • Environmental benefits – direct reduction of CO₂, NOₓ and PM.
  • Future-proof operations – compliance with EU regulations such as ETS, FuelEU
    Maritime, and AFIR
  • Grid relief – avoiding costly grid expansions accelerates zero-emission operations

“This award underlines that emission-free ports are no longer a vision – they are possible
today. Our mobile hydrogen-powered shore power systems help shipping companies
comply with European regulations, while avoiding delays and costs from grid congestion.”

— Wouter Guijt, Founder & CEO, Nexus Energy
Nexus Energy has already proven its technology in multiple pilots across the
Netherlands, with more than 2,000 operational hours powering dredgers, heavy
machinery, and offshore vessels. Each PowerPack can replace thousands of tonnes of
CO₂ annually, while cutting local air pollution that directly affects surrounding
communities.

With the Rabobank Innovation Award, Nexus Energy strengthens its position as a pioneer
in the energy transition, showing that shipping decarbonisation requires solutions that
are not only impactful and sustainable, but also scalable and profitable – even in the
face of Europe’s grid bottlenecks
