Royal IHC secures contract with DOF for modular cable lay system

May 8 2025

Royal IHC has signed a contract with DOF Group ASA (“DOF”) to supply a modular cable lay system. This system is designed to support power cable installation and repair projects, and has been further customised to allow the system to be configured differently depending on the project.

The modularity of the cable lay system enables quick mobilisation and demobilisation, with road-transportable sections enabling the efficient transportation of the system onto other vessels within the DOF fleet.

The system also builds on Royal IHC’s established portfolio of cable lay and burial equipment, including rental tensioners and winches, which can be seamlessly integrated with the new modular spread. This gives customers commercial flexibility throughout their operations.

“This is a genuine step change in how the industry can respond to cable fault downtime,” said Dag Raymond Rasch, Executive Vice President DOF Atlantic. “Our investment reflects DOF’s ability to rapidly address clients’ needs. We’re not just adapting oil and gas equipment – this system has been purpose-built for offshore wind, with flexibility, efficiency and uptime at its core.”

Allan Cairns, Managing Director of Royal IHC Ltd, added, “We would like to thank DOF for their trust in Royal IHC, and for their collaboration on the project so far. This project underscores our commitment to delivering innovative solutions for power cable installation and repair. We are looking forward to working with the team at DOF to achieve a successful outcome.”

The modular cable lay system will be developed and built at the Royal IHC site in the UK, with delivery to DOF scheduled for later this year.

This milestone demonstrates Royal IHC’s continuing dedication to design and deliver widespread capabilities in cable lay for industry leaders across the offshore wind and fibre optic sectors.
