Thecla Bodewes shipyards delivers 7,280dwt vessel ‘mv vertom joyce’ to vertom group’s growing fleet
Kampen, 28-5-2025 – Thecla Bodewes Shipyards proudly announces the successful delivery of the MV Vertom Joyce, a 7,280 DWT state-of-the-art dry cargo vessel, to longstanding partner Vertom Group. This milestone marks the eighth vessel in the pioneering LABRAX series, with two more advanced ships set to join Vertom’s modern, sustainable fleet in the near future.
Advancing the Future of Green Maritime Logistics
The MV Vertom Joyce is the result of a long-standing collaboration between Thecla Bodewes Shipyards
and Vertom Group. As the latest vessel in the LABRAX series, Vertom Joyce represents a leap forward
in modern shipbuilding, pairing robust performance with advanced sustainability features.
Designed with a spacious box-shaped hold and lower propulsion demand, the vessel is purpose-built
for efficient cargo movement across Europe and beyond, while cutting emissions and fuel use
significantly compared to traditional tonnage.
Smarter Propulsion for a Cleaner Tomorrow
Built with a state-of-the-art diesel-electric propulsion system, the MV Vertom Joyce is engineered to
significantly cut emissions and reduce fuel consumption. A modern power management system
ensures optimal energy efficiency, reinforcing both companies’ ongoing commitment to greener
operations and a low-carbon maritime industry.
“With every new LABRAX vessel, we continue to push boundaries,” said Thecla Bodewes, CEO of Thecla
Bodewes Shipyards. “Vertom Joyce is a shining example of how innovation and environmental
responsibility can go hand-in-hand. Our partnership with Vertom is built on shared values and a bold
vision for the future of shipping.”
Built for Efficiency, Designed for Performance
The MV Vertom Joyce offers exceptional cargo-handling capabilities and operational efficiency.
Measuring 118.60 meters in length with a beam of 14.30 meters, and featuring a spacious full-box
cargo hold of 329,700 cubic feet, the vessel stands out as a competitive solution for modern logistics.
Its reduced propulsion power requirements ensure cost savings and environmental benefits compared to conventional ships in the same class.
Following in the wake of her successful sister vessels—including Vertom Patty, Vertom Cyta, Vertom Tomma, Vertom Anne Marit, Vertom Anette, Vertom Lisa, and Vertom Willemijn, the MV Vertom Joyce strengthens the reputation of the LABRAX series as a benchmark for sustainable performance at sea.
A Trusted Partnership Anchored in Innovation
The ceremonial handover took place at Harlingen Seaport, in the presence of stakeholders from both
companies. Arjan de Jong, CEO of Vertom Group, noted:
“As the eighth vessel in the LABRAX series, the MV Vertom Joyce represents the progress we’ve made through the close collaboration between our seafarers, our newbuilding team, and the specialists at the yard and across the supply chain. Each vessel has benefited from their collective experience and feedback, resulting in continuous design improvements. This delivery reflects our ongoing commitment to innovation, safety, and sustainable performance at sea.”
Setting the Course for Sustainable Shipping
With the MV Vertom Joyce, Vertom Group and Thecla Bodewes Shipyards reaffirm their role as industry leaders driving the shift toward environmentally conscious shipping. As the LABRAX series continues to grow, each vessel serves as a model for how innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence can be seamlessly integrated into the future of maritime transport.
