Damen Naval signs contract with Lloyd’s Register for new frigate for Colombia

Vlissingen, 4 December 2024 - Damen Naval is signing a contract with classification society, Lloyd’s Register, on the Plataforma Estratégica de Superficie (PES) frigate for Colombia. Colombian shipbuilder COTECMAR (Corporación de Ciencia y Tecnología para el Desarrollo de la Industria Naval, Marítima y Fluvial) will build the frigate on its shipyard in Colombia.

Damen RSD Tug 2513 named Med Aldebaran in Tug Malta ceremony

On December 4th, Tug Malta held a naming ceremony for its latest vessel, a Damen RSD Tug 2513, in Malta. During a celebration attended by the Prime Minister of Malta Robert Abela, the vessel was named Med Aldebaran. With more than 80 tonnes of bollard pull at its disposal, the new vessel will add significant strength to the company’s operations in Malta’s Port of Marsaxlokk.

Damen Shiprepair Oranjewerf advances sustainable dockings with Shore power from Elma Systems

Damen Shiprepair Oranjewerf is giving a green boost to ship repair, maintenance, conversion and refit projects with a recent shore power installation. The yard had already installed shore power suited to many of its projects. However, with this latest installation, developed by Elma Systems, the availability of clean on-shore power converted to 60Hz has been widened to cover all types of vessel that call at the yard.

Underwater propeller blade replacement in Amsterdam by Hydrex

A 173-meter, heavy load carrier needed to have one of its propeller blades replaced during the ship’s stop in Amsterdam. Hydrex therefore sent a team to the vessel’s location to perform the operation underwater.
