Invitation: Future Factory for Wind: Industrialising the Wind Energy Supply Chain

Are you involved in the wind energy supply chain, for example, in the manufacturing of turbine components? Are you developing technologies that could transform how wind turbines and wind farms are designed, manufactured, monitored and maintained?

The wind energy sector is entering a new phase of industrialisation. Larger turbines, increasing production volumes, cost pressures, labour shortages, supply chain challenges, and sustainability requirements are creating new demands on manufacturing. At the same time, breakthroughs in digitalisation, robotics, advanced materials and artificial intelligence are opening up entirely new possibilities. 

To explore these opportunities, TNO is bringing together component suppliers, technology developers, automation experts, researchers and innovation leaders for an interactive workshop focused on the future of wind turbine manufacturing. 

The objective is simple: to connect industrial challenges with emerging technologies and identify opportunities for future collaboration and innovation. 

Featured Technologies & Innovation Cases 

During the workshop, TNO experts and industry innovators will present concrete examples of technologies with the potential to transform the wind energy supply chain, including: 

Topics will include manufacturing digital twins, industrial AI, advanced composites, robotics, additive manufacturing and other technologies that can help increase productivity, sustainability and competitiveness across the wind energy supply chain. 

Smart Factories & Manufacturing Digital Twins 

How can manufacturers create a real-time digital representation of their production environment? Topics include manufacturing digital twins, smart data integration, AI-driven production optimisation, predictive manufacturing and advanced quality control. 

Advanced Composite Materials 

New material concepts can reduce environmental impact while maintaining performance and manufacturability. Examples include bamboo-fibre composites, thermoplastic composites, and other innovative materials for future wind turbine components. 

Robotics, Automation & Industrial AI 

Technologies enabling scalable, flexible and cost-effective manufacturing, including autonomous manufacturing systems, robotics, AI-assisted inspection and automated quality assurance. 

Additive Manufacturing & Future Production Concepts 

Innovations in large-scale 3D printing, rapid tooling, flexible manufacturing and new production concepts that can accelerate industrialisation of the wind energy supply chain.
