Damen Marine Components to supply rudder systems for the world’s largest Pure Car and Truck Carriers

Damen Marine Components (DMC) has been contracted to supply rudder systems for four Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC), each capable of carrying up to 9,200 CEU (car equivalent units). The vessels are being built at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd and China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd for their client BYD Auto, China’s largest manufacturer of electric and hybrid vehicles. When launched, the PCTCs will be the largest of their class in the world.

ABB’s shore connection technology drives decarbonization of DEME’s fleet in the Port of Vlissingen

ABB has won the contract to provide a complete shore connection installation for the DEME Base in Vlissingen, the Netherlands. Shore connection enables the diverse fleet of dredgers, offshore construction and support vessels to avoid carbon emissions by shutting off their engines and drawing on shore power while at berth. Headquartered in Belgium, DEME is a leading contractor in the fields of offshore energy, environmental remediation, dredging and marine infrastructure.

Underwater propeller repairs: now class approved

A damaged propeller can lead to reduced performance, increased fuel consumption, and overload on ships’ engines. Cropping is one solution, but it’s only temporary and requires re-work by welding on new blade material in a workshop. Furthermore, reducing propeller blade surface will result in loss of efficiency and reduced sailing speed. It can even lead to rejection of the propeller if cropping is done beyond certain limits.

Merganser receives certification from Bureau Veritas

Bureau Veritas Awards World’s First Prototype Certification for SolarDuck's Floating Offshore Solar Solution. Bureau Veritas (BV), a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification (TIC), has awarded the Dutch-Norwegian renewable energy company SolarDuck the world’s first Prototype Certification for a floating offshore solar technology, as applied in SolarDuck’s 0.5 MW pilot "Merganser". This certification represents a significant step forward in the development of marine renewable energy technologies for offshore applications.

Damen delivers ASD Tug 2811 to Brodospas

On 22nd March, the Damen Shipyards Group delivered an ASD Tug 2811 to Croatian vessel operator Brodospas. On 27th March, Brodospas held a ceremony, welcoming the vessel to its fleet and naming it Hrabri. The cutting-edge vessel boasts 60 tonnes of bollard pull, with which it will enhance harbour towage operations in the ports of Split and Ploče on the Dalmatian coast.
