In a landmark deal, Ulstein Design & Solutions AS has secured its largest aftermarket design contract to date for the cable-laying vessel Orient Adventurer. The contract, awarded by Dong Fang Offshore (DFO), involves both basic design and engineering provided by several of the companies in Ulstein.

Huisman has been awarded a contract from Penta-Ocean Construction Co. Ltd. to deliver a 5,000mt Tub Mounted Crane along with a monopile handling system, including a Motion Compensated Pile Gripper. Developed collaboratively with Penta-Ocean Construction and vessel designer Ulstein, this innovative equipment concept seamlessly integrates the crane and handling tools into Penta-Ocean Construction’s new heavy lift vessel. Designed for the Japanese offshore wind market, this vessel will be the world’s first fully integrated heavy lift vessel, offering one of the highest lifting capacities globally.

Damen cuts steel on latest Island Class vessel for BC Ferries
On 16th January, Damen Shipyards Galati cut steel on the third vessel in an order of four Island Class Ferries from Canada’s BC Ferries. At the same time, another vessel in the series reached the grand block assembly stage of construction at the yard. The vessels, based on Damen’s double-ended 8117 E3 Ferry, will be the first fully electric ferries to sail in the organisation’s fleet. They will bring the total number of Damen vessels operated by BC Ferries to ten.
First Damen Cutter Suction Dredger under construction in Azerbaijan
Baku Shipyard is currently working on the construction of a Damen Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) 650. The design of the dredger and its materials package have been delivered by Damen Shipyards Group. The dredger, which will be ready later this year, will be operated by the Port of Baku, a thriving transport hub on the western shore of the Caspian Sea.
