Technology group Wärtsilä will supply its latest addition to the company’s engine portfolio, the Wärtsilä 25, for a new 44-metre long stern trawler. The vessel is being built for Faroe Islands operator Vardin and is the first of three new vessels to be built for the Faroe Islands. The following two fishing vessels are jointly owned by Vardin and fellow Faroe Island operator, Framherji, and will also feature the Wärtsilä 25 engine. The order was booked by Wärtsilä in February 2024.

In a landmark partnership, Damen Financial Services (DFS) and Siemens Financial Services (SFS) have joined forces to establish a new facility for vessel financing solutions: Damen Ship Lease (DSL). The DSL facility is now one of the funds of Damen Ship Lease Cooperation which is managed by DFS. It is designed to provide current and prospective ship owners with the ability to expand their fleets by enabling them to acquire state-of-the-art vessels using flexible financing options.

Damen Marine Components opens new office in Hamburg, Germany
On the second of May, Damen Marine Components (DMC) held a grand opening of its new office in Hamburg, with the ceremonies led by Bear Damen, son of Damen Shipyards Group Chairman Kommer Damen. The decision to move to new premises in the city was the result of space becoming available in the award-winning Doppel X building at 58 Heidenkampsweg. Designed by Teherani Architects (Hamburg), it sets the highest standards in both design and sustainability, an attribute it shares with DMC.

Scrubber pipes repaired and given lasting protection
Hydrex diver/technicians carried out scrubber overboard pipe repairs on tankers, roro ships and container vessels in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. In total, ten corroded pipes were replaced on six ships while clad welding repairs were done on two vessels.

Damen launches fully electric RSD-E Tug 2513 for Port of Antwerp-Bruges
On 12th April Damen Shipyards Group launched the second of its fully electric RSD-E Tugs 2513 at Damen Song Cam Shipyard. The tug is being built for the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, together with five conventional RSD Tugs 2513. When delivered later this year, it will be the first fully electric tug to operate in European waters.
