Damen wins class and flag states approval in principle for future methanol-fuelled workboats
Starting in the summer of 2022 and working closely from the outset with classification society Bureau Veritas, Damen has developed and gained approval in principle for designs of methanol-powered compact vessels. LNG carriers set the standards for this type of fuel, but their size has resulted in rules that are very different to those required by much smaller vessels. Clearly a new design approach was needed to make them applicable for workboats.
Damen Naval contracts ABB to supply integrated power and distribution system for ASW Frigates
Damen Naval has chosen ABB to supply its Onboard DC Grid™ integrated power and distribution system to the new Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Frigates. The Vlissingen-based shipbuilder is building four state-of-the-art frigates, two for the Royal Netherlands Navy and two for the Belgian navy. It is the second collaboration between Damen Naval and ABB; in early 2022, the Norwegian division of company was contracted for the F126 Frigate project for the German Navy.
Damen Shipyards signs contract with Port of Antwerp-Bruges for supply of six new RSD Tugs
The Port of Antwerp-Bruges has placed an order with Damen Shipyards for five diesel-powered RSD Tugs 2513 fitted with the Damen Marine NOx Reduction System, and one electric RSD-E Tug 2513. This is part of the ongoing renewal of its fleet. Port of Antwerp-Bruges bought the first diesel RSD Tugs 2513 three years ago and their performance has paved the way for this new order.
